Kim Lachapelle Superintendent, Client Services and Financial Education

Kim Lachapelle has been Superintendent, Client Services and Financial Education at the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) since March 2024. In this role, she leads a team of over 135 individuals who are committed to the mission of informing and assisting consumers and industry stakeholders, educating and empowering consumers of financial products and services, processing complaints, administering the Fonds d’indemnisation des services financiers (financial services compensation fund) and providing clients with dispute resolution support. AMF Client Services and Financial Education is also responsible for activities related the registration and qualification of members of the financial industry.

Known for her leadership in the management and governance of complex environments and for developing lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders, Ms. Lachapelle had been AMF Vice-President, Strategy, Risks and Performance since 2018. Her team’s activities included strategic planning; economic, financial and digital transformation research; coordination of the domestic and international activities of the organization; fintech support and innovation; integrated risk and organizational performance management; data governance and leveraging; and relations with the office of the Minister of Finance of Québec.

From 2008 until her appointment at the AMF in 2018, Ms. Lachapelle was Secretary General of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) (the council of the securities regulators of Canada’s provinces and territories), where she helped improve the management and co-ordination of regulatory proposals and initiatives. She ensured that the CSA strategic plan was implemented and the objectives set collectively by the securities regulators were achieved.

Before joining the CSA, Ms. Lachapelle served as Corporate Secretary of Jean Coutu Group (PJC) Inc. and Pebercan Inc. and practised insurance law with Robinson, Sheppard, Shapiro.

Kim Lachapelle holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Montréal, an MBA from HEC Montréal and a Certified Corporate Director (ASC) designation from Laval University. She has been a member of the Québec Bar since 1992.
