Pass the examinations and compulsory training

If you wish to have insurance of persons, group insurance of persons or a class of these sectors added to your certificate, you must pass the examinations for such sector or sector class.

To be eligible for the examinations, your compulsory training from an AMF-recognized training body must be valid.

If you are certified in insurance of persons, group insurance of persons or a class of these sectors AND you passed your examinations after January 1, 2016 *

Examination exemption

You are exempt from the examinations you have already passed for the purpose of acting in such other sector or sector class (s. 21 r. 1):

  • If you are authorized to act in insurance of persons or group insurance of persons or a class of these sectors;

    And

  • If your probationary period begins within three years following the issuance of your certificate in such other sector or sector class.

Example

A representative certified in insurance of persons wants to add the group insurance of persons sector to his certificate.

  • March 20, 2022: He passes four LLQP examinations.
  • April 15 to July 15, 2022: He completes the 12-week probationary period in insurance of persons.
  • August 8, 2022: He is certified in insurance of persons (date of issuance).
  • August 8, 2025: End of exemption from previously passed examinations.

The representative must begin his probationary period before August 8, 2025 to be exempted from the examinations he already passed.

After that date, he will have to complete the following four steps:

  1. Satisfy the minimum qualifications;
  2. Pass the examinations;
  3. Complete a probationary period;
  4. Apply for a representative’s certificate.

Your examinations are no longer valid. An examination is valid for two years from the date it is passed.

To add a sector or sector class, you must complete the following four steps:

  4. Apply for a representative’s certificate.

Are you certified in insurance of persons, group insurance of persons or financial planning?

To add the “personal-lines damage insurance” and/or “commercial-lines damage insurance” sector class, you must complete the following four steps:

  1. Satisfy the minimum qualifications;
  2. Pass the AMF’s examinations;
  3. Complete a probationary period;
  4. Apply for a representative’s certificate.

Minimum qualification exemption

Under section 17 of the Regulation respecting the issuance and renewal of representatives’ certificates This link will open in a new window, representatives may be exempt from the minimum qualifications prescribed for the sector class in which they are applying if, for a period of at least one year, they held a certificate that was issued or renewed after October 1, 2002.

Examination exemption

Under section 21 of the Regulation respecting the issuance and renewal of representatives’ certificates This link will open in a new window, representatives may be exempt from the examinations they have already passed in order to pursue activities in that sector class.

Required examinations

Addition of Designation E "Claims adjustment in respect of policies purchased through the firm"

Damage insurance agents and brokers wishing to be authorized to act as claims adjusters in respect of policies purchased through the firm for which they act must have Designation E added to their certificate.

To do this, they must complete the following four steps:

  1. Satisfy the minimum qualifications;
  2. Pass the examinations;
  3. Successfully complete a six-week probationary period for each sector class;
  4. Apply for a representative’s certificate.

Representatives seeking a certificate in claims adjustment in personal-lines damage insurance and/or claims adjustment in commercial-lines damage insurance must complete the following four steps:

  4. Apply for a representative’s certificate.
