You must renew your certificate annually to maintain your right to practise.

How to renew your certificate

If you are registered for E-Services

The AMF will send you the “Annual renewal of your representative’s certificate” notice in your secure E-Services inbox 60 days before your certificate expires.

To renew your certificate, access E-Services.

Then, from the “Insurance, Financial Planning and Mortgage brokerage” menu select “Renewal” and follow these steps:

  1. Confirm the information in the identification section;

  2. Select the sector(s) or sector class(es) to renew;

  3. Answer the 8 questions of the mandatory declaration;

  4. Attach the requested forms and documents, as applicable. If you answered yes:

  5. Pay the required fees;

  6. Confirm the declaration on information provided and submit the application;

  7. You will receive a confirmation showing your application number.

Once your application is processed by the AMF, you will receive a letter in your inbox confirming that your representative's certificate has been renewed.

To avoid delays in the processing of your application, the AMF must receive your renewal form along with your payment  15 days before your certificate expires.

If you are not registered for E-Services

The AMF will send you a personalized renewal form to your mailing address 60 days before your certificate expires.

Follow the steps in the form:

  1. Check the information in the identification section
  2. Select the sector(s) or sector class(es) to renew
  3. Answer the 8 questions of the mandatory declaration

  5. Validate the information provided
  6. Complete the fees table for the renewal of your certificate:
    - Fees payable for the certificate by sector or sector class
    - Fees payable for the contribution to the Chambre de l’assurance de dommages
    Note: The invoice for the contribution to the Chambre de la sécurité financière is produced in January.
  7. Enter the total amount payable according to the fees table
  8. Complete the payment slip (pdf - 81 KB)This link will open in a new windowApril 2017 according to the method of payment used:
    - cheque
    - money order
    - credit card (Visa, MasterCard or American Express)
  9. Mail us the following:
    - The renewal form
    - Your payment of the applicable fees and contributions
    - The form(s) and documents requested in step 4, if applicable

Once your application is processed by the AMF, you will receive a letter by mail confirming that your representative’s certificate has been renewed.

Not using E-Services?

If you do not use E-Services, the processing of your application could be delayed. We recommend that you send your documents as soon as possible.

Renewal date

You must renew your certificate before its expiry date. The expiry date is set on the day preceding the first day of the month corresponding to the first letter of the certificate holder's surname.

Renewal fees

Insurance, financial planning or mortgage brokerage representative (Distribution Act)

Each sector or sector class = $111

  • Insurance of persons (accident and sickness)
  • Group insurance of persons (insurance or pension plans)
  • Damage insurance (personal-lines or commercial-lines)
  • Claims adjustment (personal-lines or commercial-lines)
  • Financial planning
  • Mortgage brokerage

Contribution to the Chambre de la sécurité financière (CSF) = $441.50 (including taxes)

Contribution to the Chambre de l'assurance de dommages (ChAD) = $417.36 (including taxes)

Additional fee payable for the discipline of mortgage brokerage = $290 (no taxes)

Mutual fund or scholarship plan representative (Securities Act)

These amounts are collected from firms as at December 31 via the National Registration Database (NRD).

Each category = $213

  • Mutual funds
  • Scholarship plans

Compensation fundMore than one category: The contribution is discounted by $75 for each additional category.

  • Mutual funds = $160
  • Scholarship plans = $100

Contribution to the Chambre de la sécurité financière (CSF) = $441.50 (including taxes)

NRD system fees = $75

Independent representative only: maintenance of registration (Distribution Act)

For each sector = $111

  • Insurance of persons

Contribution to the compensation fund:More than one sector: The contribution is discounted by $75 for each additional sector.

  • Mortgage brokerage = $100

Non-renewal of certificate

If you are registered for E-Services

The AMF will send you the “Annual renewal of your representative’s certificate” notice in your secure E-Services inbox 60 days before your certificate expires.

You must inform the AMF if you do not wish to renew one or more sectors of your representative’s certificate.

Once your application is processed by the AMF, you will receive a letter in your secure inbox confirming that your representative’s certificate has not been renewed.

Steps to follow in E-Services

Access E-Services.

Then, from the “Insurance, Financial Planning or Mortgage Brokerage” menu select “Renewal” and follow these steps:

  1. Confirm the identification;
  2. Tick the sector(s) you do not wish to renew, or tick
    “I wish to close my representative’s file. Therefore, I will not be renewing my certificate.”;
  3. Confirm the declaration on information provided and submit the application;
  4. You will receive a confirmation showing your application number.

Note that if you are an independent representative, you must also withdraw your registration

If you are not registered for AMF E-Services

The AMF will send you a personalized renewal form to your mailing address 60 days before your certificate expires.

You must inform the AMF if you do not wish to renew one or more sectors of your representative’s certificate.

To proceed with non-renewal, follow these steps:

  1. Confirm the information in the identification section
  2. Tick the sector(s) you do not wish to renew, Or Tick “I wish to close my representative’s file. Therefore, I will not be renewing my certificate.”
  3. Confirm the declaration on information provided. Your signature and date are required.
  4. Send your form by mail.

Once your application is processed by the AMF, you will receive a letter by mail confirming that your representative’s certificate has not been renewed.

Note that if you are an independent representative, you must also withdraw your registration


No longer authorized to practise?

Have you lost your right to practise because your certificate is suspended?

You are probably facing one of these situations:

You do not have a way to carry on business (no attachment)

You are not registered as an independent representative or you are not attached to a firm. To renew your certificate, you must follow these steps:

    or

If you do not resolve your situation before the date your certificate expires, it will not be renewed.

You did not pay your contribution to the CSF

You did not pay your annual contribution to the Chambre de la sécurité financière (CSF). To renew your certificate, you must follow these steps:

  1. Pay your contribution to the CSF according to the procedure for representatives subject to the Distribution Act;
  2. Complete the steps in the How to renew your certificate section above.

If you do not resolve your situation before the date your certificate expires, it will not be renewed.

You did not accumulate all your professional development units (PDUs)

Your file does not comply with the rules relating to compulsory professional development prescribed by the Chambre de la sécurité financière (CSF), and /or the Chambre de l’assurance de dommages (ChAD), and/or the Institut québécois de planification financière (IQPF).

To renew your certificate, you must follow these steps:

  1. Procedure for lifting the suspension of a representative’s certificate;
  2. Complete the steps in the How to renew your certificate section above.

If you do not resolve your situation before the date your certificate expires, it will not be renewed.
