Since April 25, 2012, a certified representative from a Canadian province other than Québec or a Canadian territory seeking to act as a representative in the Damage insurance sector or the Claims adjustment Sector or one of their Sector classes in Québec is exempt from:
- the minimum qualifications set out in the Regulation respecting the issuance and renewal of representatives' certificatesThis link will open in a new window;
- the prescribed examinations, other than those relating to concepts specific to professional practice in Québec (see the reference guide below to find out which AMF examination(s) must be passed).
A certified representative from a Canadian province other than Québec or a Canadian territory must submit an Application for Examination Registration Authorization (pdf - 411 KB)This link will open in a new windowUpdated on 1st January 2019 to the AMF and attach the following two documents:
- a photocopy of the document issued by a competent authority showing that he was authorized to act while he lived outside Québec.
The authorization in question has to have been in effect in the year preceding the application for authorization to register for the exams (regardless of the duration of the authorization). It must also be equivalent to the representative's certificate applied for in Québec. (See the reference guide below to find out what equivalences are granted.)
- proof that he lived in the Canadian province or territory when authorization was given by the competent authority. This proof must include the applicant's name and address.
The following proofs of residence are accepted:
- driver's licence from a Canadian province;
- municipal or school tax bill;
- government postal correspondence;
- recent invoice from a company providing energy, residential telephone or cable services;
- hospital card accompanied by the health insurance card with photo;
- record of employment or payslip;
- certificate or statement of home or auto insurance;
- transcript from a Canadian college or university;
- bank statement;
- change of address receipt from Canada Post.
Once the examinations are passed, the candidate must complete a probationary period in the sector or sector class in question.
Note that a certified representative who surrenders or does not renew his authorization to practise in another province or territory must, within three years following his surrender or non-renewal of the authorization:
- pass the AMF exam(s) indicated in the reference guide,
- complete the probationary period; and
- apply for a representative's certificate.
