Firms with an Innovative Project
You are planning to launch an innovative business model, product or service in the financial sector to address the needs of consumers? You want to comply with the laws and regulations governing the financial sector, but you are not sure which ones might apply to your project?

We invite you to consult the Legislative guidance page, which provides an overview of certain legislative and regulatory provisions that could apply to your project.
Indeed, your product, service or technology could trigger obligations under securities legislation. For example, it could trigger an obligation to register as a securities and/or derivatives firm.
Your project could also be eligible for application of an exemptive relief from certain regulatory requirements in certain cases.
For more information on registration requirements and obtaining exemptive relief under securities legislation, please refer to the following pages:
- Registration and Maintenance of registration in Quebec for Securities or Derivatives firms
- Content and quality of discretionary exemption applications
We also invite you to consult the CSA Collaboratory This link will open in a new window, which provides a cohort testing environment that allows new financial concepts, technologies, regulatory approaches and innovative business models to be tested in the capital markets, with a controlled regulatory framework and with the guidance of CSA staff.
Please note that AMF staff cannot provide an opinion on the regulatory framework applicable to a specific project that is submitted; they can only direct the person making the request to the relevant documentation. It is the responsibility of each participant in a project to conduct a legal analysis with respect to how the law applies to the project.
