La Presse article regarding Norbourg - AMF sets the record straight
Montréal – The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) does not normally comment on ongoing investigations. However, faced with the seriousness of the statements made in the article that appeared today in La Presse entitled “Asselin enquêtait sur Norbourg” [Asselin Investigated Norbourg], the AMF is compelled to issue this press release to set the record straight. The AMF deplores the fact that La Presse published the article despite the warning letters previously sent to the main parties involved.
The AMF wishes to confirm that:
- Eric Asselin was never designated as an investigator or inspector in the Norbourg matter;
- With respect to his duties at the Québec Securities Commission, Scott Disher was never assigned to the Norbourg matter;
- Scott Disher breached his legal obligations and shirked his contractual undertakings with the Québec Securities Commission, including a confidentiality agreement.
Accordingly, the AMF intends to launch all necessary legal proceedings to ensure that ongoing investigations are conducted properly, to avoid disruption in any of the many legal proceedings in the Norbourg matter, and to protect the reputation and integrity of the AMF and its staff.
No further comments regarding this matter will be issued.
The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec’s financial sector.
