Illegal practice as an insurance representative - Fines against Daniel Messier and Annie Chaussé

Insurance Decisions and Freeze and cease trade orders

Montréal - On August 19, 2015, Judge Serge Champoux of the Court of Québec, district of Bedford, imposed fines totalling $22,000 on Daniel Messier, a former insurance of persons representative, and Annie Chaussé.

On June 11, 2015, Daniel Messier pleaded guilty to five counts of pursuing illegal activities as an insurance of persons representative and two counts of making misrepresentations to clients as to his status as a representative. Judge Champoux ordered him to pay a fine of $20,000.

As for Annie Chaussé, she was found guilty of aiding Daniel Messier, who at the time was struck off the roll of the Chambre de la sécurité financière on a provisional basis, with the illegal practice. She was ordered to pay a fine of $2,000.

In March 2015, the Bureau de décision et de révision imposed certain conditions on the activities of Annie Chaussé as well as a sanction against Assurances Annie Chaussé inc.

The Autorité des marchés financiers ("AMF") is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec's financial sector.
