Title of private wealth advisor (PWA) now considered similar to title of financial planner and may not be used

Montréal – The Regulation to amend the Regulation respecting titles similar to the title of financial planner proposed by the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) on May 19, 2006 and published in the Gazette officielle du Québec as a draft regulation on February 14, 2007 has received government approval, as required, and comes into force today.
The title of “private wealth advisor” and its abbreviation “PWA” have now been added to the list of titles similar to the title of “financial planner” in section 1 of the Regulation and may therefore no longer be used.
On November 25, 2005, the AMF published for comment the Regulation to amend the Regulation respecting titles similar to the title of financial planner. After analyzing the comments it received, the AMF submitted a draft regulation to the government on May 19, 2006 for approval.The regulation was adopted by the government on August 15, 2007.
The Regulation to amend the Regulation respecting titles similar to the title of financial planner was published in the AMF Bulletin dated August 17, 2007 (section 3.2), which is available on the AMF website.
The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec’s financial sector.
