Third edition of Rendez-vous with the AMF -
A must event for the financial industry

Montréal – The third edition of Rendez-vous with the AMF, held yesterday in Montréal, generated thoughtful discussions and exchanges among senior executives from the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), guest specialists and over 500 delegates from the financial products and services industry.
"Thanks to its popularity with members of the financial industry and its established reputation, Rendez-vous with the AMF has become a must annual gathering and a major forum focusing on the various issues and challenges facing the industry," noted AMF President and CEO Jean St-Gelais.
The conditions prevailing in the financial industry over the past few months triggered numerous discussions and attracted solid workshop participation, in particular in connection with economic crime and the credit crunch. "Around the world, people are gaining a fuller understanding of the importance of the financial industry to society and the role that regulatory authorities must play to ensure that the industry operates at an optimum level," added Mr. Jean St-Gelais.
Key issues on the agenda included tomorrow's labour force for the financial industry and point of sale disclosure for consumers, and exchanges will further the AMF's efforts at maintaining a healthy balance between a framework that rigorously governs the markets and the implementation of measures intended to foster the development of the financial industry in Québec.
The success of this year's edition of Rendez-vous with the AMF was also secured through the credibility and reputation of guests such as Pierre Arcand, MNA for Mont-Royal and Parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Finance, Thomas Kloet, Chief Executive Officer, TMX Group, Barbara Stymiest, Chief Operating Officer, Royal Bank of Canada, Yvon Charest, President and Chief Executive Officer, Industrial Alliance, and Susan Wolburgh Jenah, President and Chief Executive Officer, Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada (IIROC).
The fourth edition of Rendez-vous with the AMF will take place in October 2009.
