Montréal - The Autorité des marchés financiers (the "AMF") is launching penal proceedings in the judicial district of Terrebonne consisting of six charges in connection with an illegal distribution by Jean Mercure and the law firm Lexauris soutien juridique aux accidentés inc. ("Lexauris").

Jean Mercure, who is a practising lawyer, is facing four charges: one charge for aiding Lexauris in a distribution without a prospectus, one charge for acting illegally as a representative of a securities dealer, one charge for stating to a client that a security would be listed on an exchange, and one charge for providing false or misleading information. The AMF is also filing two charges against Lexauris: one charge for making an illegal distribution and one charge for illegally pursuing activities as a securities dealer.

If found guilty on all charges, the defendants are liable to minimum fines of $14,000 and $8,000, respectively.

The Autorité des marchés financiers (the "AMF") is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec's financial sector.
