Montréal – On December 6, 2016, at the request of the Autorité des marchés financiers (the “AMF”), the Tribunal administratif des services financiers (the “Tribunal”) issued ex parte freeze and prohibition orders against Alexandre Barta (alias Alex Barta) and sole proprietorship RAM, registered in the name of Alex Barta.

In its decision, the Tribunal ordered Alexandre Barta and RAM not to dispose, directly or indirectly, of the funds, securities or other assets that are in their possession or custody, and not to withdraw or appropriate, directly or indirectly, funds, securities or other assets from any other person having them on deposit, under control or in safekeeping on their behalf, including condominiums held by Alexandre Barta.

The Tribunal also prohibited Alexandre Barta and RAM from directly or indirectly engaging in any activity in respect of a transaction in any form of investment described in section 1 of the Securities Act and prohibited them from pursuing, directly or indirectly, any activity as a securities adviser.

Moreover, the Tribunal ordered the Bank of Montréal and any person on whom the decision will be served not to dispose of the funds, securities or other assets that they have on deposit, under control or in safekeeping on behalf of the respondents.

The Autorité des marchés financiers (the “AMF”) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec’s financial sector.
