Montréal – The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) has announced that the Québec winner of the “Test Your Financial IQ” contest is 17-year-old Ève Longchamps, a resident of St-Georges (Beauce). She won a prize of $750. As well, Ève’s video earned an honourable mention for creative achievement in the national finals. By drawing on La Fontaine’s well-known fable about the cricket and the ant, her video highlights what can happen when people fail to save enough money.

Young Canadians could test their financial IQ by taking part in an on-line quiz. Anyone with a minimum score was eligible for a prize as part of a draw in each Canadian province and territory.

The “Test Your Financial IQ” contest aims to make young people aware of the benefits of saving and investing and to encourage them to learn about the financial products available on the market. The contest is organized by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA).

Some 40,000 Canadians from 15 to 21 years of age visited the contest website (www.ttqif.ca), and 20,000 participated in the contest, which consists of provincial and national components. In addition to the national grand prize of $2,000, thirteen provincial and territorial prizes of $750 were awarded.

The role of teachers has been crucial for the promotion and success of this contest. As an expression of appreciation, a teacher from each Canadian province and territory was awarded a prize. In Québec, Robert Leduc, who teaches at the Collège Claretain in Victoriaville, won $100 for his active participation in the contest.

Thirteen judges, one from each province and territory, were identified from among all contestants who passed the quiz. In Québec, Annie-Claude Couture from Sherbrooke was selected and awarded a prize for her contribution to determining the winners.

The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec's financial sector.
