Do not respond to solicitations from Weizhen Tang
Investor warnings - News
Montréal – The Autorité des marchés financiers (the “AMF”) is cautioning Québec investors about solicitations that may be made by Weizhen Tang or firms associated with him, including Weizhen Tang and Associates Inc., Oversea Chinese Fund Limited Partnership Business and Weizhen Tang Corp.
Weizhen Tang recently announced his intent to resume his investment activities outside Ontario, but still in Canada, by creating an investment fund targeting individual and institutional investors.
In October 2012, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice convicted Weizhen Tang of fraud and sentenced him to prison.
Furthermore, in 2016, the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) issued an order permanently banning Weizhen Tang from trading or acquiring any securities or derivatives, working as a registrant in the financial industry, or serving as director or officer of a company or investment firm.Owing to the reciprocal enforcement of orders rendered by members of the Canadian Securities Administrators, the order issued by the OSC also applies in Québec.
Weizhen Tang and the firms associated with him have never been registered in any capacity with the AMF and cease trade and freeze orders were issued against them in 2009.
Have you invested through Weizhen Tang or a firm associated with him?
If you have invested or been solicited to invest through the individual or firms in question, please contact our Information Centre. We can answer your questions, and the information you provide could help us better protect consumers.
Offering investments—whether over the Internet, by telephone or in person—is a regulated activity. Any individual or business promoting an investment product must be registered with the AMF or be exempt from the registration requirement. To make sure you don’t become a victim of this type of approach, check whether the individual or firm that contacted you is on the Register of firms and individuals authorized to practise.
Visit the AMF website to learn about other steps to avoid fraud.
The Autorité des marchés financiers is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec’s financial sector.
