Appointment of assessment committee members: Fund for investor education and the promotion of good governance

Montréal – The President and CEO of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is pleased to announce the appointment of the seven members of the Assessment Committee of the Fund for Investor Education and the Promotion of Good Governance. The members are:

  • Pierre-Yves Châtillon, lawyer specializing in corporate, commercial and securities law;
  • Jean-Marie Gagnon, professor emeritus in the Department of Finance and Insurance of the Faculty of Administration Sciences at Laval University;
  • Marie-Agnès Thellier, President and CEO of the Cercle des présidents du Québec and former journalist specialized in economic and financial affairs;
  • Luc St-Arnault, Director General of the Institut de finance mathématique de Montréal;
  • Anne-Marie Poitras, Superintendent, Client Services and Compensation, AMF;
  • Daniel Laurion, Executive Director, Special Projects, AMF;
  • Philippe Roy, Manager of the Fund for Investor Education and the Promotion of Good Governance.

Biographical notes for members are available on the AMF website. It is understood that members serve without compensation.

The mandate of the Fund’s Assessment Committee is to ensure that applications for financial support comply with Fund standards, assess applications, determine the eligibility and quality of projects and make recommendations on projects deemed to be eligible for support. The Committee is governed by a code of professional conduct and confidentiality.

The Fund is mandated to support training and research initiatives in three areas: investor protection, investor education and the promotion of good governance. Since its establishment in May 2004, the Fund has supported 34 projects with almost $4 million in financing. The next call for projects under the Fund is set for October 31, 2007.

The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec’s financial sector.
