The Autorité des marchés financiers (the AMF) recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) regarding cooperation and the exchange of information in the supervision and oversight of regulated entities that operate on a cross-border basis in the jurisdictions of the signatory authorities. The Alberta Securities Commission, the British Columbia Securities Commission and the Ontario Securities Commission also signed the MOU, which provides for consultation and cooperation and the exchange of information between these Canadian authorities, the AMF and the CFTC.

Through the MOU, the parties express their willingness to cooperate in the interest of fulfilling their respective regulatory mandates, particularly in the areas of protecting investors and customers; fostering the integrity of and maintaining confidence in financial markets; and reducing systemic risk. The scope of the MOU includes markets and organized trading platforms, central counterparties, trade repositories, and intermediaries, dealers, and other market participants.
