Montréal – The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) has launched a penal proceeding against Jean-Pierre Lefebvre in the Court of Québec (Criminal and Penal Division), district of Beauharnois, and is seeking fines totalling $2,000.

The AMF has filed 2 charges against Jean-Pierre Lefebvre for:

  • pursuing activities as a claims adjuster without acting for a firm, thereby violating section 14 of the Act respecting the distribution of financial products and services (the "Act"), and thus committing an offence under section 461.
  • pursuing activities as a claims adjuster, without holding an appropriate certificate issued by the AMF, thereby violating section 12 of the Act, and thus committing an offence under section 461.

Jean-Pierre Lefebvre has been registered with the AMF as a claims adjuster since October 1999. However, his registration was interrupted on two occasions for periods of over a year. The allegations against him took place during these periods.

The AMF is seeking fines that are double the minimum penalty prescribed by law, namely, $1,000 per offence, for general deterrence purposes and exemplary reasons.

The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec's financial sector.
