Insurance Decisions and Freeze and cease trade orders
Montréal – On September 17, 2009, the Autorité des marchés financiers (the “AMF”) imposed a $10,000 penalty on 9081-8048 Québec inc., which does business under the name Tremblay Assurance Ltée in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, for violations of An Act respecting the distribution of financial products and services (the “Act”).
The AMF charges that the firm allowed Marc Girard to illegally act as a damage insurance representative between January and December 2007.
The AMF requires that the firm provide a document demonstrating that control and supervisory measures have been implemented to ensure that representatives and employees comply with the Act and its regulations in order to prevent such situations from occurring again.
On May 22, 2009, Marc Girard pleaded guilty to five charges laid by the AMF for illegally acting as a damage insurance broker and paid a $2,500 fine.
The Autorité des marchés financiers (the “AMF”) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec’s financial sector.
