Montréal – How can you be sure you have enough insurance? This is the question asked by Protégez-Vous and the Autorité des marchés financiers (the “AMF”) in the publication Guide pratique de l’assurance, a practical guide to insurance written in clear and straightforward language designed to help consumers better understand the complex subject of insurance by answering many of their questions.

How can you be sure you’re choosing the right insurance? That you’ve understood the contract? And the exclusions? And what happens if a mistake is made? The insurance sector has developed so rapidly over the past few years that choosing the right insurance can be a real headache. To help you figure it out, the Guide pratique de l’assurance focuses on two broad insurance classes: damage insurance, which includes automobile and home insurance, and insurance of persons, which includes life insurance.

Although some forms of insurance are not mandatory, they can be very useful to help face the financial consequences of situations such as death, disability which prevents you from working, a disaster that destroys your home, emergency surgery while travelling abroad or an automobile accident. Whatever the case, the Guide pratique de l’assurance gives consumers all the tools they need to understand the many insurance products available and have everything on hand to choose the right insurance based on needs and budget.
