March, Fraud Prevention Month - Launch of investors' rights guide
Securities
Montréal – The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) wishes to highlight the launch of an investors' rights guide ("Guide des droits des investisseurs") developed by Observatoire du droit québécois des valeurs mobilières thanks to financial support from the Education and Good Governance Fund.
The guide, which is available at www.droitsdesinvestisseurs.com, provides investors with various resources to better understand their rights based on securities legislation in Québec. The guide adopts a 4-step approach: issue under consideration, rights and obligations, remedies and resources.
As well, the guide is a useful information tool with respect to the rules governing securities, thereby helping investors protect themselves against financial fraud.
Observatoire du droit québécois des valeurs mobilières, which is a research centre established in 2006 with a contribution from the Education and Good Governance Fund, is associated with the Law Faculty of the University of Montréal. Its mission is to conduct research, teaching and training in matters related to securities law and thereby contribute to the development of a centre for excellence in Québec.
The Fund is managed by the AMF. Since its creation in May 2004, it has contributed over $5 million in support of some 55 projects. The complete list of projects, including details, will soon be available on the AMF website in the section dedicated to the Fund.
The AMF and the "Observatoire" invite all interested parties to a public presentation of the guide scheduled for March 31, 2009, starting at 5:00 p.m. at the University of Montréal (room 3446, Pavillon Maximilien-Caron).
The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec's financial sector.
