Montréal – With the financial crisis on everyone’s mind these days, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is inviting young people between the ages of 15 and 21, their parents and their teachers to check out Tesaffaires.com This link will open in a new window, the AMF’s newly revamped website dedicated to educating young people on financial matters.
The site features a variety of tests and activities aimed at building financial know-how and developing good reflexes and money-management habits. Also featured are new calculators to help determine how much it costs to use credit cards or what an investment might earn.
“It’$ your money” is also a toolbox for teachers. The For Teachers This link will open in a new window section contains a wealth of activities teachers can carry out with their students to foster and evaluate knowledge acquired by future investors, teach them how to consult different sources of information and develop critical thinking before making financial decisions.
Through this site, the AMF hopes to make young people aware of the importance of preparing a budget and determining their investor profile, setting goals and evaluating their risk tolerance. “We feel it’s important to give young people useful tools to teach them about personal finances,” said Anne-Marie Poitras, Superintendent, Client Services and Compensation with the AMF. “We encourage teachers to use our youth site as a tool to instill good money-management habits in students.”
The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec’s financial sector.
