Claude Martineau ordered to cease activities as representative
Insurance
Montréal - Claude Martineau, a former representative in insurance of persons from the region of Trois-Rivières, was ordered to cease pursuing activities as a representative or purporting to be a representative within the meaning of An Act respecting the distribution of financial products and services ("Distribution Act") since he is no longer registered with the Autorité des marchés financiers ("AMF") in any capacity.
In the decision it issued on July 18, 2014 at the request of the AMF, the Bureau de décision et de révision ("Bureau") ordered Claude Martineau to comply with the provisions of the Distribution Act and to cease acting as a representative within the meaning of the law or purporting to be a representative. As well, the Bureau has barred him from acting, directly or indirectly, as a responsible officer of a firm in insurance of persons.
The AMF investigation revealed that Claude Martineau continued, until recently, to act as a representative with former clients in insurance of persons and even solicited new clients although his certificate has been inactive since September 2013.
The Autorité des marchés financiers (the AMF) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec's financial sector.
