Appointment of Mario Albert as Superintendent, Distribution

Montréal – Jean St-Gelais, President and CEO of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), is pleased to announce the appointment of Mario Albert as Superintendent, Distribution. Mr. Albert will take up his position on October 31, 2007, and will be based at the head office of the AMF in Québec City.
Mr. Albert, who is an economist, has worked at the Department of Finance Canada and at the Québec Ministry of Finance. A seasoned manager, he has held numerous positions, including Secretary of the Québec Government’s Commission on Fiscal Imbalance and Assistant Deputy Minister responsible for economic and budgetary revenue analysis and forecasting. Until very recently, Mr. Albert was Assistant Deputy Minister in the Budgetary Policy and Economics sector of the Québec Ministry of Finance.
“I am confident that given his management background, his sensitivity to the economic expansion of Québec and his extensive knowledge of the operations of government, Mr. Albert will be a key player in the strategic vision of AMF senior management,” said Mr. St-Gelais. “I welcome him to our organization and wish him much success in his new role,” he added.
Lastly, Mr. St-Gelais thanked Claude Prévost, who assumed interim responsibility for AMF Distribution.
AMF Distribution applies the rules regarding eligibility and the right to practice that apply to representatives, firms, advisers and brokers in all financial sectors. It provides front-line services for registration, maintenance, certification and renewal of the permits and certificates issued under the Securities Act and the Act respecting the distribution of financial products and services. Moreover, it prepares and ensures the implementation of the orientations and regulations related to its functions.
The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec’s financial sector.
