Montréal – The Autorité des marchés financiers (the "AMF") is pleased to announce the appointment of Moad Fahmi to the new position of Director, Fintech and Innovation.
"This new function will foster the collaboration that is essential to developing Québec's fintech ecosystem," said Louis Morisset, AMF President and Chief Executive Officer. "It is good news for our Fintech Working Group, the industry and the academic research milieu."
Mr. Fahmi will co-ordinate the work of the Fintech Working Group, which includes six major projects: blockchain technology; mobile payment solutions and virtual currencies; fundraising platforms; automated insurance and investment tools; regtech; big data and connected devices. He will also be responsible for chairing the Technological Innovation Advisory Committee, ensuring effective guidance for emerging businesses, and supporting innovation at the AMF.
In recent months, the AMF has focused on guiding emerging businesses, in particular by creating a single point of entry ([email protected]) and contributing to the functioning of the Canadian Securities Administrators regulatory sandbox. It has also launched several initiatives, including the creation of a fintech lab and the signing of an agreement with the Institute for Data Valorisation (IVADO), in order to deepen its knowledge of the implications of technological innovations for the financial services industry and to explore their application to its regulated entities and regulatory activities.
The Autorité des marchés financiers is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec's financial sector.
