AMF seeks fine against Gilles Dufresne

Insurance

Montréal - The Autorité des marchés financiers ("AMF") has launched a penal proceeding against Gilles Dufresne and filed a charge for acting as a claims adjuster without holding a certificate for such purpose from the AMF. He faces a minimum fine of $2,000.

The AMF intends to prove that Gilles Dufresne obtained a mandate from an insured couple for the purpose of negotiating the settlement of a claim stemming from a fire and assisted them in preparing their statement. However, at the time of the loss, Gilles Dufresne was not registered with the AMF as a claims adjuster.

The Autorité des marchés financiers (the AMF) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec's financial sector.
