AMF 2010-2011 Annual Report

Montréal - The Autorité des marchés financiers (the "AMF") released its 2010-2011 Annual Report. In addition to including its financial statements, the report covers the main activities carried out by the AMF in the fiscal period from April 1, 2010 to March 31, 2011, particularly in connection with the administration of the following statutes: the Deposit Insurance Act, the Securities Act, An Act respecting the distribution of financial products and services and the Derivatives Act.

The following activities were part of the AMF's seventh year of operations:

  • participation in the establishment of a joint team to combat economic crimes and financial fraud;
  • assistance in the development of Bill 128 that led to An Act to enact the Money-Services Businesses Act and to amend various legislative provisions;
  • organization of the 35th Annual Conference of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), which attracted over 650 financial industry representatives and specialists and financial market regulators from more than 100 countries in June 2010;
  • support extended to the government of Québec for the various court proceedings and interventions it undertook with respect to the federal government's proposal to establish a single national securities commission.

The AMF Annual Report was tabled on October 18 in the Québec National Assembly.
