Level of Education Equivalent to a DCS

A level of education equivalent to a diploma of collegial studies (DCS) is one of the minimum qualifications required to apply for authorization to register for AMF examinations in the following sectors and their sector classes:

  • Damage insurance;
  • Claims adjustment;

If you do not hold a DCS, but you have completed courses as part of a recognized training program, the AMF may credit you for such training toward an attestation of studies equivalent to a DCS.

If you hold a DCS issued in a Canadian province other than Québec or you have successfully passed courses in a program of technical training in a Canadian province other than Québec, you may also obtain recognition for your level of education. To do so, you will need to file an application for recognition of education equivalent to a diploma of collegial studies (DCS) to receive, if applicable, an attestation of a level of education equivalent to a DCS.

To apply for an attestation of a level of education equivalent to a DCS, you must hold at least one of the following:

  • A secondary school diploma (SSD) issued in Canada; or
  • A diploma of vocational studies (DVS) consisting of at least 60 units, issued in Québec; or
  • A Certificate of Equivalence of Secondary Studies (CESS) issued in Québec; or
  • An Attestation of Equivalence of Secondary V Studies (AESS) issued in Québec; or
  • The Évaluation comparative des études effectuées hors du Québec issued by the Ministère de l’Immigration, de la Diversité et de l'Inclusion confirming a result similar to or higher than an SSD.

The value attributed to this basic level of education is at least 11 years of studies. To compensate for the 13 years of education required to apply for authorization to register for AMF examinations, you must submit official transcripts attesting to other studies. When examining your file, the AMF will consider all other years of recognized training or education based on the system of reference.
