Jean St-Gelais honorary chair of 2006 Bourstad Competition

Organization

Montréal – The President and CEO of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), Jean St-Gelais, has heartily agreed to act as Honorary Chair of the 2006 Bourstad competition. The AMF will be a partner for the event this year.

“It’s a real pleasure for me to act as Honorary Chair of Bourstad and play an active role in such an educational and stimulating competition. It’s a great opportunity to help young people and adults alike develop their knowledge of finance and investments,” said Mr. St-Gelais.

The Bourstad competition is a simulation of market trading in which participants, each with $100,000 in capital at the outset, seek to maximize their returns through a minimum number of transactions over an eight-week period. The securities in which they invest are not fictitious but are actual shares and options with fluctuating prices.

This year, in addition to delivering educational support to students, Bourstad is associating with the co-operative federation ACTIF for the purpose of providing support to the general public.

The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec’s financial sector.
