Jean St-Gelais appointed CSA Chair

Securities CSA

Montréal – Jean St-Gelais, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), has been appointed as the new Chair of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA).

“I consider this appointment an honour and wish to thank my CSA colleagues for the confidence they’ve expressed in me,” said Jean St-Gelais, pointing out that he had every intention to pursue the CSA’s efforts at harmonization. “I look forward to working with my colleagues across Canada to continue to harmonize and improve the regulation of our capital markets,” added Mr. St-Gelais.

Mr. St-Gelais succeeds Stephen Sibold, the Alberta Securities Commission Chair, who has served as head of the CSA since April 2003. Mr. St-Gelais noted the excellent work accomplished by Mr. Sibold, mentioning in particular the establishment of a permanent secretariat in 2004. “The secretariat has helped achieve greater synergy at the CSA.” Mr. St-Gelais’s appointment is for a two-year term, commencing on April 1, 2005.

The CSA (www.securities-administrators.ca This link will open in a new window), the council of the securities regulators of Canada’s provinces and territories, co-ordinates and harmonizes regulation for the Canadian capital markets.

The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec's financial sector.
