AMF launches Québec travel insurance brochure

Organization

Montréal – With the summer vacation period almost in full swing, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) wishes to stress the importance of travel insurance and is releasing its latest brochure intended to help consumers better understand how travel insurance functions. “The AMF is pleased to publish a brochure that offers consumers information about travel insurance,” said Anne-Marie Poitras, AMF Executive Director, Client Services and Compensation.

Prepared by the AMF, the new brochure titled “Québec Travel Insurance” helps consumers better understand the following:

  • what is travel insurance;
  • the types of protection available: insurance for emergency healthcare, trip cancellation and interruption insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, baggage insurance, etc.;
  • coverage available through the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec for travel out-ofprovince and abroad;
  • exclusions and limitations. Coverage is usually excluded in situations such as war, invasion, suicide, criminal acts, self-mutilation, mental problems, complications from pregnancy or childbirth in the two months prior to the anticipated delivery date, participation in dangerous activities etc.;
  • where to purchase travel insurance.

The brochure does not provide advice on the purchase or use of specific financial products or services. The publication of this brochure is part of the AMF’s commitment to supporting consumers in connection with the purchase or use of financial products and services by giving them easy access through various channels to relevant and objective information that is easy to understand.

The brochure is available free of charge on the AMF website by clicking on “Consult our new brochures” or contacting our Information Centre at 1 877 525-0337.

The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) is the regulatory and oversight body for Québec’s financial sector.
