The AMF is a legal person which acts as a mandatary of the State. It is governed by the Financial Administration Act, CQLR, c. A-6.001  This link will open in a new window, with the status of a “body other than a budget-funded body” and therefore enjoys financial independence. It is financed by the various financial sector participants.

The AMF's constituting Act provides various control and reporting mechanisms, such as approval of its activity plan and budget estimates by the government, the audit of its books and accounts by the Auditor General of Québec and the tabling of its annual report in the National Assembly. The AMF also participates when requested in the examination of appropriations from the Ministère des Finances as conducted by the Commission des finances publiques du Québec.
