A member of the Barreau du Québec and the Corporation professionnelle des administrateurs agréés (“C.Adm.”) until 2006, Michel Lespérance holds a Licentiate in Law from the University of Montréal and a Diploma in Administrative Sciences from the École des Hautes Études Commerciales (HEC).
After beginning his career as a lawyer, he joined the University of Montréal in 1970, where he was appointed Secretary General in 1983. He held this position until September 1, 2005, when he retired. In April 2008, he was appointed Secretary General Emeritus of the University.
During his career, Mr. Lespérance served, in particular, on the boards of directors of the École Polytechnique de Montréal, CÉGEP de Saint-Laurent and Caisse populaire Côte-des-Neiges.
Mr. Lespérance has been a member of several associations, including the National Association of College and University Attorneys, the Association des secrétaires généraux d'établissements universitaires, of which he served as President from 1988 to 1990, and the Groupement international des secrétaires généraux des universités francophones, of which he was President from 2001 to 2003.
